Whites v Drovers Match Preview

  •  Swansea vs Llandovery - match preview.
  • Former Players' Chairman Terry Morgan looks forward to the encounter.
  • AWFPA help upgrade floodlighting.

This Saturday our rugby fixture is a home tie versus Llandovery RFC. Well it is certain to be a thriller, of that there can be no doubt. Swansea came off second to the Drovers at the Church Bank ground at the end of September, but have significantly improved since them. Last weekend saw yet another close encounter with the north Wales outfit of RGC 1404. On their own patch they were pushed all the way by a determined Swansea side that missed victory by the margin of a conversion, going down 34 – 35 at the last. This on top of the 16 all draw with Swansea playing with 14 men for virtually the entire match. The Whites will be burning to show they can maintain the level shown against the table topping RGC, against Llandovery on Saturday (2nd December).

The Drovers have had their own issues with consistency, though the loss away at The Gnoll to a struggling Neath side can in part be attributed to a swathe of players on Regional call-up. They were back to winning ways last weekend however, with a solid home win over Aberavon. So we cannot predict a favourite as both sides are on the up. Richard Lancaster’s men will be very keen to show the home crowd the sharpness up front that characterised their play at Parc Erias and surely Llandovery will be looking to keep in touch with the north Wales side currently heading the West division of the Premiership.

We the Former Players will be having our AGM before the game on Saturday and certainly we can give ourselves a pat on the back as we have been involved in the renovation of the floodlighting at St Helen’s. Whilst we have not been responsible for the lights themselves, we have provided the wherewithal to purchase and install a new ‘Switch Gear’ to control it. So we hope we are doing our bit, along with the Patron Supporters and volunteers who help keep The Whites wagon on the road.

To see what this week’s Memorabilia Quiz is – you’ll have to be there on match day and buy a match programme!
