- Richard Lancaster; "He is still young but you can see he's working hard and doing everything he can to establish himself at the highest possible level"
Swansea RFC are pleased to announce the signing of centre, Liam Smith.
The 21 year old from Carmarthen joins from Kidwelly RFC where he has spent his youth and early senior playing years, and represented home region, Scarlets, at under 18s level.
Last year, Smith headed over to New Zealand where he played for New Brighton RFC and the Canterbury U20’s side, before heading to Canada to play in Vancouver for Capalano RFC.
Now back in Wales, and starting his first season playing in the Premiership, Liam said; “I’m really pleased to have been given the opportunity to make my first start in the Premiership with Swansea RFC and am looking forward to the season ahead. There’s plenty of interesting fixtures in the calendar and the local derbies should be good matches to be a part of. I’ve learnt a lot from being out in NZ and Canada and hopefully I can bring those skills to the field with me as well as improve on certain aspect with the guidance of the Swansea coaches.”
Director of Rugby, Richard Lancaster went on to say; "Liam has a lot of experience of playing different types of rugby in division 1 here in Wales, New Zealand and in Canada.
He is still young but you can see he's working hard and doing everything he can to establish himself at the highest possible level. He's a good guy in the team environment and has been a great addition to the squad so far.”
