Whites Women going for the 'Double'

By Dave Dow | 17/05/2017

Swansea WRFC will attempt a league and cup double on Saturday!

Swansea Women's RFC were confirmed as Premier League Champions last Sunday, having beaten Caernarfon WRFC away by 37 points to 17. On Saturday afternoon they travel to Bedwas to play Caernarfon again, this time in the Women's Super Cup Final. The possibility of a League and Cup double will give added spice to the fixture as Swansea attempt a clean sweep and Caernarfon look for revenge for last weekend's loss.

Swansea WRFC were confirmed as League winners at the end of Sunday's match, having trailed "the Cofis" 10 - 12 at half time. Kerin Lake moved from her normal position of centre, to outside half, scored two first half tries but Caernarfon responded with two tries, one of them converted to hold the lead at the break.

Swansea's confidence in their power and pace was justified after the restart when Lake crossed for her hat-trick, skipper Siwan Lillicrap converting. Caernarfon evened the score at 17 - 17 with an unconverted try of their own. But it was their last success as Whites' centre Adi Tavener took a quick tap penalty to put speedster Ffion Bowen over the whitewash. Kerin Lake crossed again to claim her fourth try of the afternoon before a powerful charge by prop Amy Evans gave full-back Rosie Fletcher the chance to show her pace with a 40m run to the try-line. Flanker Robyn Lock, playing at centre for this match, crossed for the final Swansea score as The Whites claimed the Women's Premier League with the style of rugby that has won them many supporters in their first season at St Helen's.

On Saturday (20th) afternoon they travel to The Bridge Field ground at Bedwas RFC with a chance to claim an impressive double if they overcome Caernarfon a second time in a fortnight. All Whites supporters are urged to take the opportunity to get there and cheer on our Women's team who have played to a consistently high standard all season.

Women's Super Cup Final.
