The tragic news of Elli’s passing has hit the rugby community both locally and regionally, and the outpouring of support for her family, friends and team mates highlights just how much she was loved by all within the rugby community. Cardiff Met WRFC dedicated their semi final BUCS match vs Loughborough to Elli, and the 1500 strong crowd who came out at the CAP was a testament to the number of people touched by the tragic news.
Elli had played with SWRFC since its establishment and the number 14 jersey will forever be associated with her skills and abilities amongst our Women’s team. At difficult times such as this, the power of the ‘rugby family’ can help people to express their feelings in a way that is supportive to each other and the family of Elli Norkett. This is especially so when we are able to play the game she loved so much as an expression of respect and solidarity.
As a mark of our own remembrance of Elli, SWRFC will be holding a memorial match on Friday 24th March at St Helen’s, which will see the club side take on an Elli Norkett Select VX team. Kick off will be at 7pm and entry is free, however we would kindly ask for a donation towards the family’s two chosen charities; Cancer Research and The Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust.
